First opened in 1903, Jordan Hall is a National Historic Landmark and one of the most acoustically acclaimed concert halls in the United States. As the centerpiece of the New England Conservatory of Music, the Hall plays a vital role in performance, teaching, and recording for both the Conservatory and the greater Boston music community. Despite its prestige, the facility historically lacked air conditioning, forcing it to close during the summer months and limiting its academic and performance potential.

The Jordan Hall Revitalization project addressed this long‑standing challenge through a carefully planned HVAC modernization that respected the building’s historic character and uncompromising acoustical standards. EQUANS MEP installed roof‑mounted gas‑fired absorber chiller heaters and custom roof‑mounted air handling units to provide year‑round cooling and heating. All ductwork and mechanical systems were discretely integrated into the existing structure, with extensive acoustical treatments, vibration isolation, and noise‑control measures engineered to meet the stringent requirements of a world‑class performance venue.

The completed project successfully transformed Jordan Hall into a fully air‑conditioned, year‑round facility without compromising its legendary sound quality. Today, Jordan Hall hosts more than 100 free concerts annually and serves as a classroom and rehearsal hall for over 750 New England Conservatory students. The revitalization reaffirmed the Hall’s status as one of the nation’s most important concert spaces and demonstrated EQUANS MEP’s expertise in delivering complex mechanical systems within historically and acoustically sensitive environments.
